A Mother’s Day Message from Equality Ohio’s Executive Director

This weekend, I’m celebrating my first Mother’s Day.

As I do so, I can’t help but to think of all the mama figures in our lives — and how 3 out of 4 families in the United States do not reflect the nuclear images we see in the greeting card aisle. I think of house Mothers in the LGBTQ+ community, who’ve taken in young people for generations. I think of single Mothers who take on more than their share, and working Mothers who want to build a better world. To me, Mother’s Day serves as a reminder:

Our commitment to our children must be unwavering – especially LGBTQ+ children

Our LGBTQ+ children, and specifically our transgender children deserve to feel safe and loved, without fear of harassment and discrimination. This Mother’s Day, as I hold this precious new life close, I’m calling for action.

Please submit testimony in support of The Equality Act this Mother’s Day weekend.

Show Ohio, and the entire nation that Mothers will not stand idly by as our children are discriminated against. Children have one minimum requirement: to be supported in being who they are, to be fully loved. That is our commitment to them. Diversity is a proven success, in nature, in the economy, in art and culture around the world. It is not something to fear, it is something to love.

Submit a testimony and show your support for The Equality Act.
