You asked us to grade Ohio’s elected officials. So we did.

After several months of poring over voting records, newspaper archives, and social media accounts, we are proud to present Equality Ohio’s Inaugural Elected Official Scorecard.

Ohio’s LGBTQ community has long been asking for a way to hold their elected officials accountable for their records on the issues so important to our community. Now, it is here, and just in time for for the 2018 midterm elections.

We have summarized our policy work across many different issue areas and provide you with a guide on how your elected officials (and those seeking your vote next month) stack up on nondiscrimination, LGBTQ youth policy, and many more issues that have a huge effect on life as an LGBTQ Ohioan.

It is our hope that you will use the information in the scorecard to make informed decisions at the ballot box on November 6th.

We are partners in the fight to provide lived and legal equality for all Ohioans, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. Our job of advocating for LGBTQ Ohioans in interacting with elected officials is only possible when legislators are willing to engage on LGBTQ policy.

That job is much harder in a state legislature with a number of policymakers with scores in the F to D range. If your representative has a score that you think should be higher, you can call them and ask them to better represent you and the LGBTQ community. You can look up their contact information while looking at their scores.

See you at the polls!
