STATEMENT: Equality Ohio Responds to The Senate—We’ve Got Us. We Will Fight.

Ohio — The Ohio Senate’s approval of SB 104 marks a devastating moment for all Ohioans, especially for transgender and nonbinary youth. This restrictive bill mandates all kindergarten through university school bathrooms and spaces used for school-sanctioned activities to be restricted by a person’s assigned sex at birth, endangering the safety and dignity of trans students, or anyone perceived as transgender by authorities.

SB 104 does not reflect the values of inclusion and respect that Ohioans hold dear. Instead, it risks isolating our youth, undermining their ability to learn and thrive in safe environments. This harmful legislation stands in direct opposition to fostering supportive, inclusive schools that uplift all young people.

“Trans students are just like students everywhere. They just want to feel safe and secure in their schools. SB 104 is a dangerous bill that puts vulnerable trans youth at risk for abuse and harassment,” said Equality Ohio Executive Director Dwayne Steward “In this moment of heightened political hostility against the trans community, our mission has never been clearer. We know the power we hold when we show up together—unwavering and united—and we’re counting on that solidarity to overcome the challenging months ahead. We will fight SB 104 every step of the way.”

We need your voice now! We urge every ally and community member to take action by calling or emailing Governor Mike DeWine and asking him to veto SB 104. Together, we have the power to protect our community and defend the rights of Ohio’s LGBTQ+ youth.

Call Governor Mike DeWine at 614-466-3555 or send an email today

Tell him Ohio’s students deserve better—our youth need safe, supportive schools, free from discrimination and fear.

Remember: We’ve Got This. We’ve Got Us.

Our community is strong, resilient, and unwavering in the face of challenges. Together, we will continue fighting for a state that embraces and respects all its residents.
