Statement: Equality Ohio Stands Firm Against SB 104 |
Ohio — Equality Ohio released the following statement after Gov. Mike DeWine ACTION on SB 104, a restrictive bill that mandates all kindergarten through university school bathrooms and spaces used for school-sanctioned activities to be restricted by a person’s assigned sex at birth, endangering the safety and dignity of trans students, or anyone perceived as transgender by authorities.
“We made it clear to Governor DeWine and Ohio legislators that SB 104 does nothing to make trans students safer in schools, and in fact makes life more dangerous for trans kids in Ohio,” said Equality Ohio Executive Director Dwayne Steward. “We are deeply disappointed that Governor DeWine has allowed this dangerous bill to become law that puts vulnerable trans youth at risk for abuse and harassment. Equality Ohio will continue to stand in solidarity with our transgender communities and their families, and we will always fight for fairness in Ohio.”
Our community is strong, resilient, and unwavering in the face of challenges. Together, we will continue fighting for a state that embraces and respects all its residents.
